An Update from Uncle Steph

the following comes from Uncle Steph regarding his sister-in-law (Beverly) who has been battling cancer.  He passed along an email from his brother Paul and what you will read are excerpts from that email. To read the complete transcript as well as a personal letter from Bev, check email as you may have received it already.

Dear Family,
Just wanted to update you on Bev´s progress... I know you all were probably alarmed at the news... more tumors, need to remove a piece of the small intestine, extra time in the recovery room, etc.

However, I want you to REJOICE, and PRAISE THE LORD -- He has been restoring us both -- Bev in body and Me in soul and spirit.

I have a picture that i took yesterday, to help you see her.  For your info, Bev is out to walk the corridor and do exercises at least three times a day

Even though she has an incision from her rib cage to her pubic bone, there is no pain or swelling.   The doctors are very satisfied but want full intestinal function for her release (she will probably be released tomorrow).  We are PRAISING THE LORD, for his renewing in these 5 days.

In the last six months, since completing chemo, Bev is stronger and entered surgery in good shape (probably more so than her other surgeries a year ago).  This is the Lord's healing power!

We will be returning to the doctor next week to check the progress, get pathology results, take out the stitches and learn the prognosis for the future treatments, etc.  We ask that you pray for us and for the medical staff in this time.

We love you all,
Paul

editor's note: special thanks to Uncle Steph for keeping us all informed of happenings in our greater Family Tree.  Keep praying!

What's In a Devotion Anyway?

Thought this was good devotional from Uncle Steph …

Know our faults! Admit them in confession to God – and others where appropriate!

There’s nothing wrong with asking ourselves – and God – hard questions!  Habakkuk did as he asked God ‘Why?’!  and God’s answers did not satisfy (Habakkuk 1-2).  But in the end, God’s secret mysteries were born out to reveal God’s deeper purposes.

As long as we do not stay on the questions, but finally come to the conclusion: “Yet will I wait patiently for the Lord … yet will I praise Him.”  (3:16-17).

Questions and heartaches are meant by God to deepen our faith in Him; and to remind us that we are to “walk by faith and not by sight”.  We are not to stand still in faith but be willing to take a risk (after all, when you think about walking it indicates forward motion).

Things in this life often don’t make sense: relationships, physical issues or other human struggles.  And yet Christ still gives us encouragement not to "worry" about our lives (Matthew 6:25-34) because of God's love for us.    Recently I have read a quote from a Hawaiian pastor, Wayne  Corderio:  “Faith means living in advance – what only makes sense in reverse.”   Oh we of little faith!

Could We Support a Mormon

As the Presidential Election draws close, Team Doughten is prayerfully considering who we will be endorsing against that leftist Sandanista wannabe Barack Obama.  In relation to one candidate in particular, Uncle Steve has prepared an essay to be published online and was kind enough to give us an advice "preview" edition for the Blog.  Enjoy!

Could You Vote for a Mormon? Well, could ya?
(with Dr. Jerry Newcombe*)

Have you heard the one about the mormons?
Question: What is a mormon man's favorite TV show?
Answer: How I met your mothers!

JFK, broke a barrier of sorts by becoming the first Catholic to win the White House.  Once again we find religion playing a role Mitt Romney is a Mormon.  Some think Mormons (“Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints”) as just another denomination of Christianity, not unlike Methodists/Baptists/etc.  But the questions looms for us all:  Is that true?

Let us be frank here, Mormons tend to make great neighbors and friends; they are honest and hard-working, devoted to their God(s), family, and country. Mormons can make great political leaders as well. Their zeal for missions and giving would put the average Christian to shame.

It’s a free country although Obama has tried hard to change that.  Mormons can believe whatever they want to.  But by virtually every theological criterion, Mormonism is outside the bounds of traditional, historic Christianity.  A few arguments as to why:
  1. When Mormons refer to “God,” they’re not referring to the God of the Bible.  In biblical Christianity, there is only one true God.  But Mormons view this as only one God among many.
  2. Mormons also believe that if we are good enough, we can become gods who will one day rule our own planet (I'm choosing to reinstate Pluto!)  One former Latter Day Saints president Lorenzo Snow stated: “As man is, God once was; as God is, many may become”
  3. When Mormons talk about Jesus, they are talking about a divine being who is the brother of Lucifer. Negative ghost rider.  Even though Jesus is divine in Mormonism, so also are a lot of others. Mormonism is polytheistic, whereas Christianity is monotheistic.
  4. Mormonism is not only polytheistic; it once was officially polygamous. At least until the Supreme Court ruled (in Reynolds v. United States, 1878). that marriage in these United States is between one man and one woman (something else Obama is trying to change!)
  5. In Mormonism, everything is based on the claims of their founder Joseph Smith who was from western New York state (lovely place to travel to).  This genius claimed to have received divine revelations that told him Christianity (prior to him) was hopelessly corrupt.  Because of these reported revelations, Mormons have three other books of “Scripture” in addition to the Bible.

Soooo..... what's all this mormon mumbo-jumbo have to do with the election?
If Romney became president, he could be perceived by some Mormons as fulfilling one of their prophecies: “When the Constitution of the United States hangs, as it were, upon a single thread, they will have to call for the ‘Mormon’ Elders to save it from utter destruction; and they will step forth and do it” (Discourses of Brigham Young, Vol. 2, p. 182).

Note that the Constitution prohibits the federal government from imposing a religious test for candidates. But, of course, we the people are free to choose the rulers we wish.

However, any attempts at political bridge-building should not be construed as papering over real, deep and significant theological differences.....

so, if you have a trouble reading between the lines of this article, I'll give you it in a nutshell:  Don't Vote for Mitt Romney!

*Jerry Newcombe is the senior producer and host of Truth that Transforms Like Optimus Prime with D. James Kennedy (formerly The Coral Ridge Hour). He has also written or co-written 21 books, including Answers from the Founding Fathers (Why Obama Is Going to Kill Us All!)  available from Truth in Action Ministries.  Obviously Uncle Steve did not actually right this article, he just forwarded it on.....Publication date: January 17, 2012

From The Blunt Center

the following is from Auntie Ann:

Hi, Wonderful Family!

Well, we just heard about the super bowel party down in dover and little faithie and aaron's house.  We'd love to come to the Super Bowl Party----if we are able to do so!   In kitchen related news, our oven is STILL BROKEN and we just found out yesterday UNFIXABLE...so we currently don't have an oven!!!  Oopss!!!
time for a new oven

I can't remember if I forgot to tell you HOW VERY MUCH we LOVED  YOUR CHRISTMAS CAROLLING after your train ride and "Christmas on the Front Lawn" via the window AND Christmas at Aunt Cath and Uncle John's house.  Our celebrations were different, but we still loved them just the same and LOVE YOU ALL EVEN MORE.

Some recent happenings for us here at the Blunt Center:  Middie Mom is having a rough morning.  Please pray for her.  Her back is hurting very badly.  She scared me very badly this morning when she almost went down from the pain, but our Lord and the sink caught her. She's now sitting in the rocker with the heating pad because the green chair is too uncomfortable.  Also, she's taking SENDAKOT in addition to prune juice (which we're trying to lessen because it's high in iron) and applesauce.    I can hear the pain in her voice, so please keep praying for her. Also, please pray for her blood test on Monday.

PLEASE PRAY!!!  Mom was doing a little better this afternoon, but around 4:00 pm and ever since, she has been HURTING BIG TIME.  She only ate part of her dinner and no dessert.  She still needs to "poop" (Sorry!!!!) and her back is very painful.  She had me give her her shower (like we do when she has chemo), BUT---tonight she even had me wash her face!!!!!

Dad's knee is "killing him"  to quote him!!!!

Also, please pray for Dad.  I tried to keep him out of the snow today by refusing to get his boots.  It didn't work!!!!  He started to get outside WITHOUT HIS BOOTS. I thought he was going to let me go to the store for him, but NOPE!!!!!  When he screams and almost cries like that everyone had better be quiet!  He went to the store twice today!  in the snow no less! So, I had to give in but I was so worried he would slip.
this kid down the street from us took the plunge hard!

Thank you for your faithful prayers, cards, phone calls  and love.  We love you all very much and thank our God for HIS CONTINUAL HELP AND STRENGTH and MIRACLE-BLESSINGS EACH DAY!!!

Love and Prayers,
Auntie Ann
Lam 3:21-26, Eph. 3;20, Psalm 126:3

P.P.S.  Please pray that God will give me wisdom when and if I should return to school.  My sub is doing a wonderful job with my students.  She is a Christian and doing a far better job than me!!!  I'm doing her lesson plans, but she's doing all the implementation.  Another blessing from our Lord!!!
she's so smart and looks great in those glasses!

Sneezing, Singing, Wiggling and other observations

Tonight marked the first night of American Idol for 2012.  As usual, Uncle Harry was found plopped down on the couch commenting on singer after singer with enlightening remarks such as: "where did they get this guy from?"  "the girl can sing baby!" and my personal favorite: "look at that queerz."

Speaking of singing, negotiations are ongoing to book the talented Adam Randolph for a private piano concert at the next Team Doughten party this spring/summer.  If anyone has a specific hymn in mind that they would like sung, please inform the blog and we will forward the request on to Mr. Randolph.

In some sad news, it has been reported on a recent facebook post that our precious Baby Bella "wiggles too much."  We are unsure who said this, or for that matter why they would post such a thing.  It should be noted, Bella does not wiggle, but she does spread joy to all who are around her!

So what other news?  Well, to close this blog post in  a moment of confession, a member of team doughten recently sneezed all over the food at a family dinner without first covering the mouth/nose.  It should be noted this was an accident, but hopefully no one experiences cold like symptoms in the next 2-3 days.

that is all for now, stay tuned for the latest information on Porkie Pop, Middie Mom and a post of the Team Doughten Commandments, coming in February!

Ann's Update II

I've got some updates for you----

We thank our God for HIS faithfulness as Mom receives her chemo.  He's been SO GOOD to keep her safe and well (esp.  when people are coughing at the HGC.  She now is "sporting" a mask there!!!!!!  (Too dangerous not to wear one, even though she does NOT like wearing it!!!!)
Yesterday she had her heart sonogram.  We haven't got the results from the dr., but we praise our God that the lady who took the test said her heart looked good from what she could see.
WE also thank God that even though she's not going to the bathroomas much as before, she's still having some type of bowel movement each day.  THIS IS NOT A JOKE.  We really do thank God that HE IS HELPING HER GO TO THE BATHROOM EACH DAY.
PLEASE PRAY that GOD will touch this chemo treatment and use it to help regulate Mom's cells.  Pray, too, that HE will raise her ANC and white cells and keep her red cells and hemoglobin and platelets good.  (This is the fourth week that she has not had her Arasnap shot.)
Pray, too, for Dad.  Today he stood up and caught 2 potatoes for potato salad and then he could do not more.  His legs were hurting so badly.  Tonight he helped do all the dishes becauses his legs weren't hurting.  It's on and off!!!!
We thank our God for ALL HE IS DOING!!!!!!  We love you ALL SO VERY MUCH.  We're praying for you all too.  Love and Prayers, AUntie Ann

All That Matters Is Marrow

And now, the latest on Middie Mom and Porkie Pop!

Hi, Wonderful Family!  I'm so sorry that I forgot to give an update yesterday.  Let me tell you what's happening and ask that you PLEASE KEEP PRAYING!!!!

~We praise God that Middie Mom's platelets came up!!!! (They're almost perfect!)
~We praise God that her red cells/hemoglobin was still low but good enough to skip the arasnap shot.
~We praise God that her bone marrow was "packed,"  which means the chemo didn't erase any marrow

Her white cells were still 1.5 and her ANC (fights infection) was still zero.  Last time it was 2 which is translated as 200. This week , however, it was zero which is translated 100.  The Doctor wants it to be at least 1000.   He said that "most people who die from this disease, die from getting an infection that they can't fight."  THAT'S WHY WE ARE BEING SO VERY CAREFUL.

white blood cells
She is now on TWO PREVENTIVE ANTIBIOTICS.  The newest one would cost $3000/month w/o insurance.   Praise the Lord, however that the first month was $400 +, but after that, it's $120 +.  Thank our God for insurance!
Because Middie Mom's bone marrow was "packed," Dr. Rosenrosen started her second round of treatment this week.  She has it every day this week and two days next week.  Pray as God continues to care for her.

Pork was very pleased with the Cardiologist

Tomorrow Middie Mom has a heart ultrasound  (ordered by Dr. Rhinestone, Cardiologist) to see if her heart muscles are strong enough because of all the water she is suppose to drink for her chemo (5 qts a day).  Please pray she gets great result

but he was furious about the dog house!
Also, please pray for Porky Pop's legs and spirit.  He really wanted to go to see his friend Woody in the nursing home today, but we didn't think he should.  Please pray for Pp's field Woody (for his health and more salvation for him and his family.)  Pray also these prayers for Mr. Rogers.  He also wanted to to to the Dog House, and eat there, but when we asked him to bring his sandwich home, he refused to go!

Tonight a TERRIBLE SMELL suddenly came in our house at the beginning of dinner.  I searched the house to see what it was.  We never did solve the mystery but opened the windows.  Pork said it reminded him of how Reggie Adams used to smell after a softball game.

Love and Prayers, Auntie Ann

The Late Night Donut

Uncle Harry and Aunt Linda have officially lost their minds......late last night we received word that they were traveling at a high rate of speed over to Dunkin' Donuts for that sweet sweet pastry.  This would be normal for certain people, but here at team doughten, late night snacking is frowned upon as it decreases one's chances of winning the race to bed.

Regardless, the donut run apparently proved successful and there were no sickness issues to report.  In some sad news, Aunt Linda had wanted a white creme donut but they did not have any so she had to settle for chocolate creme instead (very frustrating.....)

easy on the icing harry.....

Team Dougthen vs. RoboVirus

In a developing story, Team Doughten has recently been attacked by a new strain of illness, known to the CDC as the Robovirus (read about it here).  This virus affects the stomach and intestines and can cause vomiting and diarrhea.  Multiple team members were hit by this contagion last week.

It all began last Thursday when Aunt Linda (aka "The Mothership") went to care for Christine and Bella, who had fallen ill to the virus earlier that day.  After some careful investigation it was determined that Bella may have been the first to come under attack.  As such, Cpl. Minker is looking into all available legal options for a possible lawsuit against the daycare provider.  In the words of Derek: "Someone has to pay...."

Unfortunately, during the Mothership's rescue mission, she was struck by a sneak attack of maternal infecting robovirus cells.  Her attempts at using deflector shields (a martha stewart washcloth) proved futile and she was grounded for the weekend.

Meanwhile, back at Christine's Fortress, the virus raged on.  It's next victim was one, Cpl. Minker, deputy Cecil County Sheriff's office.  He made cheeseburgers for dinner that night thinking it might kill the virus, but apparently it had mutated to a new,  more powerful strain that was immune to beef.

While all this was going on, the chief caring officer of the family (CCO - Little Faithie), tried to organize ground forces for a counter-attack.  This included text messages and multiple phone calls to each affected team member.  Apparently the virus had become so powerful that it was able to knock out power lines and kill cell phone transmission as no one responded to her urgent messages.

After re-establishing connection with the Father-Land (Uncle Harry) to receive orders, she was told to stand down and "take it one day at a time."  This was obviously one command the CCO had to disobey, so she went rogue in an attempt to kill the virus herself (but to no avail).

The new week also brought with it the hope of victory.  The Mothership showed herself to be too powerful and after repairs were made, she was came back better than ever.  The counter-attack included gallons of pedialite (although derek bought the kind bella doesn't like so he drank it himself).

As the week progressed, the Team slowly regrouped and was finally able to defeat RoboVirus.  As the final traces of RoboVirus flush down the toilet, the battle cry was: "never again!"

take that you dirty virus!

Roto-Rooter Virus

From Christine -

"Derek and Bella and I all had the rotavirus, but I said we should have called the roto-rooter virus because it cleaned us all out!

Reprsentative Coleman

An updated from Blount Road:

Middie Mom is still under quarantine due to low cell counts.  As a result, Auntie Ann is still out of school and Porkie Pop is unable to eat at the dog house.  Due to Middie Mom's strict limitations on human interaction, the Team Doughten Executive Council has decided to send little Faithie's dog coleman to sit with middie mom as  a representative for the rest of the team.  He will sit on her lap as long as it takes for her to know how much everyone loves and misses her!

Here I come Middie Mom!!

Ann's Update: Mold In The Basement

Hello Family!

We praise God for HIS CONTINUAL WATCHFUL CARE for Mom and Dad.

Today's GREAT NEWS ---gifts from our Lord!
#1.  Mom's platelets came up even more today!  PTL!
#2.  Mom's red cells and hemoglobion came down a little, but they were too good to get her weekly arasnap shot (so she hasn't had that shot for two weeks now.  PTL!!!!
#3.  She had to have a bone marrow test today and God helped her through it.

we don't want any of these things floating around!
Prayer Requests:
#1.  Her white cells came down .1 and her anc that fights infection is still 0.  HOWEVER, we praise God that when Dr. Misleh checked her blood under the mircroscope,  her anc was 200 which is .2.  We want it to be AT LEAST 1000.

the mold in our basement is getting out of hand
#2.  She is continuing on her preventive antibotic, but the dr. is adding an additional, very expensive antibiotic because our house is old and her white cells have been down for a while.  (I asked if we should move and he said NO.  I did say we have mold in the basement too.  I'm keeping the cellar door closed and opening it only when the cat needs to go down to use the bathroom.) We are going to try to get it hermetically sealed.  (HCC Industries)

#3. The antibiotic fights fungi.  Now, without their insurance, it would cost them $3,000 each month (amounts redacted by Pork).  We praise God for their insurance.  With their insurance, they still have to $400+ the first month and $120+ the rest of the months.  PLEASE PRAY she will have NO complications with this antibiotic.  It could give hallucinations!

#4.  If her bone marrow is good and the blast are there, the dr. wants to start the second dose (a lower dose) of chemo on Monday.  PLEASE pray that our GOD will help her make the right decision about her treatment that will help her and not hurt her. If she does have the treatment, please pray that God will touch it and it will NOT HARM HER BODY.

#5. continue to pray for Dad.  His legs are hurting very badly, we need him to go to the eye doctor, and his shaking gets worse when he 's nervous.

Thanks again for YOUR WONDERFUL SURPRISE after your TRAIN RIDE and for
your "through the window" visit, phone calls, and mostly your prayers.  We are so thankful for all God is doiing.  Our hope is in Him.

We love you all!

Love and Prayers,
Ann

P.S.  Because of Mom's anc, I will be off at least through Monday.  The school nurse advises me NOT to come into the building.  Thank God that my principal and the district  have been great about my absences.

Bella's Christmas Photo Shoot (Part I)

From Christine -

I've finally had some time to put together Bella's pictures from our photo shoot in PA a few weeks ago.  Now that I'm on Christmas break I actually some time to do things when I'm not watching my little Missy!

in this picture Bella is so happy with the fun toy the photographer was holding over her head.  it was a giant stuffed squirrel.  I told Derek that I wanted a squirrel like that for Bella!

the photographer has an orange beaver she was swinging around that Bella just couldn't get over.  Derek said she really thought it was real

now she was a little scared in this picture because the photographer was trying to get her attention by talking in a very high voice which Bella doesn't like

LATEST UPDATE ON GOD'S FAITHFULNESS

 Dear Family,
Happy New Year 2012!
We praise our GOD for ALL HE IS DOING!!!  We thank HIM that Middie MOm's Red Cells and Hemoglobin were so good today that she did not neeed her arasnap shot.  ONLY GOD COULD DO THAT!!!!  We also thank HIM that her HCT, MCV, MCH, and MCHC were ALL normal!!!!!  These are all blessings from our Lord.
As you have heard, her white cells dropped (not too bad, it's 2.8 and it's suppose to be 3.5) .  Also, her platelets dropped to 58 ( they were ok with them----they don't "worry" about them until they are under 20.  PLEASE PRAY THAT THEY WILL NO TDROP ANY MORE.
Our very serious concern is her ANC---it was O .  ANC is the part of the white cells that fight infection.
We need to pray that God will raise these cells and she will NOT get any kind of infection.
Today was the first day that I saw and heard Mom cry .  SHe was so disappointed that Steph and Ryan and Hannah and Griffie could not come today and Allie and Jon, and Caleb, Rachie, Jakie, and Sarah Joy can not come tomorrow.  She was so upset too whenshe had to tell Paula and Steph could not come back once they left until after her cells came up.  (We're all excited , however, that hopefully, we'll get to see everybody on Saturday through the living room window.    We KNOW GOD HAS A REASON for this disappointment and we're TRUSTING HIM to take ethis reason and use it for HIS GLORY.
I can tell that Dad is hurting too---inside and out.  His legs are hurting and he is very concerned about Mom.  His shaking has increased and he's staying up in his bedroom lots.  Please pray for him too.
Tomorrow he and I are going to the dr. to try to get a preventive medication(like Mom is taking) so we won't spread infection.  Mom and Steph are going to stay with Mom while we are at the dr.
We very GRATEFUL FOR ALL you all do for us....
Paula and Steph, you were definitely a GOD-SEND this week, not just for ALL THE WORK YOU DID, but to help encourage Mom and Dad and me too.
Cathy and John, you werealways a GOD-Send to provide food and shelter for our family and to have our Christmas dinner.  (We're so sorry, Cathy, that your tea had to been cancelled, and changed, Mom was so looking foreward to it and i know you have worked so hard to plan every single detail.
Linda and Harrison, we were so sorry to miss your Christmas Eve celebration again this year, but we were so grateful for ALL you sent to us.  You made us feel included , even though we couldn't be there.
To you all, we LOVE YOU and thank your for your PRAYERS, LETTERS, CALLS, and EMAILS.
Please pray God will continue to do "exceedingly abundantly above what we can ask or think" and next week's report will be wonderful.  Also, pray for Dr. Misleh to have wisdom to make the right decisions about Mom's care.  And pray that our GREAT GOD will strengthen Mom's  body so we can continue to serve Him as a family, and testify of HIS FAITHFULNESS, so others can come to know and love HIM!
One more  prayer request---Mom's IRON sky-rocketed.  Please pray that it will come down ASAP.
We love you all!  Thanks for your faithful prayers and love.
Love and Prayers, AUntie ANn
